Solitary is the thinking man’s reality show. Part SAW, part 2001: A Space Odyssey, part Portal Aside from being thought provoking it also offers up plenty of grim and guilty pleasures.

This is how it essentially works: 9 people are quarantined in they’re own personal pod. They’re food and sleep deprived. They are also made to undergo maddening and near torturous “treatments”, Like sitting on a bowling ball for an hour or having to smell the worst smells you can possibly imagine (such as “liquid ass”) or having to keep their tongue fixed to a plate of glass. Anyone can quit anytime they want to. All they have to do is push a big red button conveniently placed in their pod. The first one to push it gets kicked out of the game. As long as you don’t push the button first, you’re still in. Nobody knows how anyone else is doing during “treatments”. No one knows who has or hasn’t pushed the button.

It’s a total mind screw. Now add to this mix a computer companion named “VAL” who’s voice is the only company any of the contestants have during their stay in Solitary. Part sadist, part confidante, and sometimes friend, a slightly less sinister version of 2001: A Space Odyssey’s HAL, VAL is the game show host for the new millennium.

It’s fascinating to watch how people react when pushed to the limits of their physical and emotional endurance and it’s one of the most interesting pieces of television out there right now. It’s no surprise to me that it’s the most successful show in Fox Reality Channel’s history.

Wednesday January 27th: Our first hour opens with the (un)usual Robert Galinsky “Reality Monologue” followed by news bits from Co-Hosts Philip Galinsky and Mark Yawitz of RealityWanted.com. Our first featured guest is the great “Last Comic Standing”/host of “Celebrity Fit Club” ANT. ANT reveals much about his past and also dishes the dirt Jeff Conaway’s private parts and more on the celebs who are trying to shed pounds and their inhibitions on “Fit Club”. ANT’s appearance on our show is courtesy of: Genesis Creations Entertainment. We’re also joined by radio DJ and 3rd place finisher on NBC’s “Great American Road Trip” Amie Pollard, who gives us insight into her reality TV experience and what it meant to be with her family on the journey down Route 66.

The second hour features Nile Rodgers, Grammy Award Winning Music Producer, Music Supervisor for HALO 2, founder of the band CHIC and co-founder of the global teen initiative Three Dot Dash. Nile talks about the upcoming 3DotDash Summit and meets our second guest-Daymond John- panelist on ABC’s “Shark Tank” and CEO/Founder of multi-million dollar fashion empire FUBU. Daymond is a man who has reached and surpassed new heights of commercial and financial success and his insight and approachable demeanor are at your access as he speaks to listeners and viewers about what it’s like sitting in the “Shark Tank”. He also talk about helping and nurturing others to reach their goals too. He also currently works with the New York Reality TV school and co-hosts the radio program Robert Galinsky’s Reality Wanted for CBS. He has appeared on Comedy Central, MTV, ESPN Classic, A&E, & USA networks. See why Ellis Henican from New York Newsday calls Philip Galinsky “an energetic and fresh actor”! Philip just finished shooting the pilot Wake Up to a Break Up. Philip recently had a guest spot on the TV show Cheap Seats. He also has appeared on The NFL Quarterback Club. He also can be seen in the feature film Dark Eyes. This winter Philip will be performing his one person show “Philip Galinsky presents The Best of Craigslist”. “Hilarious, you have to see this show Philip’s characters are comic monsters”. Director Guy Sharar. He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild. He has performed at the Upright Citizen Brigade theatre as well.

Whitney Collings, a contestant on the third season of The Bad Girls Club, originally hails from Boston MA. Collings says her definition of a “bad girl” is that “you are not afraid of anything and you’re not afraid the sky’s the limit.” Bad Girls Club brings seven self-proclaimed “bad girls” together in a beautiful Los Angeles mansion, and drama reigns supreme. All the girls have a unique story, point of view and attitude — as well as some kind of personal issue that makes them far from perfect. Will living together help them move forward and turn their lives around — or will chaos rule?

“Reality TV is America’s new Electro-Cardiogram and Congratulations to Guido Pride!”

I want to produce a show called the “JAPS of Long Island”- why? Because if you go to Long Island there are a group of women that do act like Jewish American Princesses. It’s undeniable. Are all Jewish women princesses? No. But there are pockets of this country that exist where people act in a certain way and my Jewish side says OY VE bring on the princesses! I’d then follow that show up with a show called the “Jews of MIT” and then I’d spin off another show called the “Jews of Harvard”. Would the three shows accurately depict all Jewish people? No. They would however be three distinctly different views of three different Jewish communities that do exist. (The fourth show would be the “Jews of the Diamond District”).

“Jersey Shore” is a snapshot of one reality in this country, like an electro-cardiogram of America’s heart, and as such it’s not the full picture- just a snap shot of a specific reality on the Jersey Shore. There is a diversity within all ethnic groups and they do act in a multitude of ways. My Italian family does not talk like the ‘guidos’ (dare I say the “G-word”) on this MTV show but I do acknowledge that some of my Italian brethren do! Just like my Jewish side of the family calls me a “schmuck” sometimes and it’s undeniable a great number of my Jamaican friends say “Yah mon” while many of my Brooklyn born brothers and sisters say “yo yo yo!” Go to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx and tell me that the community of Italians there, aren’t different then the South End of Hartford Connecticut. They are and it’s that diversity that is being celebrated on “Jersey Shore”.

We are a society of camera hungry people who know how to act when the camera shows up. As a matter of fact when the camera arrives most people “up” their personality by 15% because they’ve learned from the thousands of hours of viewing- what makes ‘good TV’. 2009: there is a camera on our society, whether broadcast from TV or from your telephone, and the reaction to the images we see are horrifying the general public because the ‘actors’ haven’t gone through the commercial TV homogenization process, they’ve been trained by watching. Decades ago, before TV, everyone’s general conversation with other people usually included a phrase or two from some well-known radio personality… We adapted our reality to the fictional voices heard every afternoon and evening on the radio. Now, it’s TV’s turn. We are copying the programs which are supposedly copying us! And people act as if they were on TV, because they watch so much TV, and learn certain behavioral responses and reactions to other people and situations. Congratulations to Guido Pride and the brave Guidos who are “Coming Out”
